<p>Cross-cultural negotiation is increasingly common in today's globalized world. The challenges of making deals with counterparts from different cultures are not exclusive to international negotiation: even within a country, bargaining often occurs between parties with distinct negotiation styles or coming from diverse subcultures.</p>
<p>In this session, participants will go through a simple, live negotiation exercise that will then be used to introduce key universal principles in negotiation that hold true across cultures. After the negotiation debrief, we will discuss basic do's and don'ts in cross-cultural negotiation, and the intricacies of identifying local versus global rules in dealmaking.</p>

<p>Gonçalo Pacheco de Almeida is the Dieter Schwarz Foundation Chaired Full Professor of Strategy and Negotiation and the Academic Director of the MBA Strategy Specialization at HEC Paris. He is also a member of CNRS-GREGHEC, the French National Research Center and HEC Paris research lab. He received his PhD and MSc in Management from INSEAD and holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance and a BA in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics. Prior to HEC Paris, he was a tenure-track professor of Management at the Stern School of Business at New York University (2002 to 2011), a guest lecturer at Sciences Po (Paris), an instructor at Nova School of Business and Economics, and a strategy and risk management consultant.</p>
<p>His interests span strategy dynamics, negotiation, competition, innovation, logic and causation, business and politics, and sustainability, with a focus on the high-tech, energy, and education sectors. His research has been published in the Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, RAND Journal of Economics, Strategy Science, and the Academy of Management Journal. He is an Associate Editor at Management Science and serves on the Editorial Board of the Strategic Management Journal.</p>
<p>He teaches Advanced Strategy, Strategy Dynamics, Negotiation, Business Strategy, and Industry and Competitor Analysis across the PhD, MBA, Executive Education, EMBA, and Grande École programs. His research has been featured in the business media and has received the Syntec French Management Consulting Best Article in Strategy and Finance, the HEC Foundation Best Paper Award, an Honorable Mention at the Strategic Management Society, and a Distinguished Paper Award and four Best Paper Nominations at the Academy of Management.</p>
<p>He has received the 2013 BNP Paribas Pierre Vernimmen Best Professor at HEC Paris Award and the HEC MBA Best Professor Award for the classes of 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He has been directing degree, custom, open, and certificate programs for HEC Paris since 2014 and for 25 years overall. He earned four doctorates in international strategy, psychology. educational leadership, and philosophy exploring what wisdom means in today's complex world. He is a graduate of key faculty development programs at Harvard, IESE, EFMD and IMD.<br />
Next to designing and delivering executive education seminars worldwide, he advises senior leaders and holds several board assignments. He held several director positions in academia and industry. He published 50+ books for executives and compiled more than 100 case studies for his executive education seminars.<br />
He is certified to administer a number of psychometric tests for strategic leaders. He received a number of research, teaching, book as well as case writing, and academic impact awards along with honorary professorships. Most notably, he won five best course awards at university level and received repeatedly the prestigious CEMS teaching award for best course in top business schools worldwide. Next to his academic initiatives, he founded several ventures. In his free time, he participates in long distance running and Ironman races.</td>

Professor of Strategy and Leadership at HEC Paris</strong><br />
<br />
He has been directing degree, custom, open, and certificate programs for HEC Paris since 2014 and for 25 years overall. He earned four doctorates in international strategy, psychology. educational leadership, and philosophy exploring what wisdom means in today's complex world. He is a graduate of key faculty development programs at Harvard, IESE, EFMD and IMD.<br />
Next to designing and delivering executive education seminars worldwide, he advises senior leaders and holds several board assignments. He held several director positions in academia and industry. He published 50+ books for executives and compiled more than 100 case studies for his executive education seminars.<br />
He is certified to administer a number of psychometric tests for strategic leaders. He received a number of research, teaching, book as well as case writing, and academic impact awards along with honorary professorships. Most notably, he won five best course awards at university level and received repeatedly the prestigious CEMS teaching award for best course in top business schools worldwide. Next to his academic initiatives, he founded several ventures. In his free time, he participates in long distance running and Ironman races.</td>

<p>Titled Leading in the Age of AI: Building Digital Intelligence, the masterclass will take place on 3 February 2026 and will be led by Professor Seungah Sarah Lee, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Organizations at HEC Paris, Doha. While Web Summit highlights cutting-edge developments in technology and innovation, HEC Paris, Doha’s contribution places the spotlight on the human dimension of AI - how leaders think, decide, and shape organizations in an AI-driven world.</p>
<p>Professor Lee’s research focuses on entrepreneurship, organizational design, and innovation, with particular attention to how global models can be adapted to local and regional contexts. The session challenges a common misconception: that AI adoption alone is sufficient to deliver competitive advantage.</p>
<p>Instead, the masterclass emphasizes that sustainable value creation depends on leadership capabilities - how leaders set priorities, manage risk, shape culture, and enable teams to experiment and execute responsibly. Participants will gain a practical framework for building digital intelligence, defined as the combination of strategic clarity, human judgment, and organizational routines that allow AI to be deployed confidently, ethically, and at scale.</p>
<p>Joshua Kobb, Chief Growth and Impact Officer at HEC Paris, Doha, said:<br />
“Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concept; it is a present reality. Yet technology without leadership is simply acceleration without direction. At HEC Paris, Doha, we believe that the true driver of impact in the age of AI is the leader who applies technology with purpose, responsibility, and judgment.
