The current batch of HEC Paris Executive MBA (EMBA) participants majoring in Energy recently completed an extensive week-long program in Qatar, to attend the session - From Primary Energy Resources to End Markets, to help them develop a comprehensive and strategic view of energy issues, including climate impact on the global economy.
The participants were hosted by HEC Paris in Qatar where they received lectures on topics such as the global energy sector, the fundamentals of the oil industry, gas and LNG and the renewable energy revolution. Andrea Masini, HEC Paris Academic Director for the Energy major, and Jean-Michel Gauthier, Chief Economist Officer at Deloitte & Executive Director of the Energy & Finance Chair, delivered several of the lectures and workshops.
In addition, the weeklong session included a visit to the headquarters of one of Qatar’s leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers RasGas Company Limited (RasGas), during which the 24 participants from HEC Paris, tapped into the excellence of RasGas to gain first-hand knowledge of the operations of the organization, a thorough understanding of strategic objectives, and how to sustain competitive advantage in the highly-challenging upstream sector.
These sessions are a crucial component of the HEC Paris EMBA. They are designed to help define the corporate energy and climate approach and further enhance the strategic views of senior managers and executives who are working or planning to work in industries in which energy production and consumption, and CO2 reduction policies could significantly impact their company’s bottom line. The session gives participants a deeper understanding of the energy sector as a whole, while the visit to RasGas provided crucial live experience of the real-time functions of such an organization.” Professor Masini
The rigorous session in Doha focused on all aspects of the upstream sector, including energy reserves, productions, technologies, financials and risk management. The participants will undergo a second session in Berlin, in October.
The Energy major, one of eight subjects HEC Paris participants can major in, provides the participants with a better understanding of the energy business and its key drivers and demands, in addition to honing their knowledge of the energy markets and technologies and their impact on business, while networking with other participants involved in the energy business.
